Freshwater monitoring reveals unknown midge diversity
Freshwater monitoring has added several new records of non-biting midges (Chironomidae) to the Faroese checklist. At least seven new species records have been made based on pupal exuviae collected from lakes in 2025 alone. Among the new records, there are even two new genera, Stictochironomus and Paratendipes.

Yet another exciting new insect record for the Faroes: The weevil species Sthereus ptinoides (E.F.Germar, 1823) has been identified based on specimens in the insect collection of the Faroe Islands National Museum. This also represents the first record of this species in Europe.
